President Donald J. Trump, during a whirlwind of madness, addressed the nation tonight to discuss the dire need for a border wall between Mexico and the U.S.
He used this time to stroke his massive ego, allowing his ignorant base to listen in on his incoherent ramblings that are most – if not entirely – false and misleading. Tonight’s speech proves that not only is he racist (and fascist), he uses a multitude of lies that feed into his supporter’s hollow brains – making it nearly impossible for them to not agree. This is a tactic used by propaganda driven machines like, dare I say, Hitler’s Nazi Germany, and while it used to be funny to mock his incompetence, that time is now over.
Let’s do a quick fact check.
Trump, at one point in his speech, used the classic line to describe the situation: “uncontrolled illegal immigration.” There are “vast quantities of illegal drugs” passing across the border, and somehow thousands of American citizens are killed by the brutality of these unauthorized Mexicans and Central Americans.
No, Mr. Trump. Nothing you said was remotely true.
For one, illegal immigration is at an all-time low. In 2000, the number of apprehensions for illegal immigrants was at a whopping 1.6 million. It has since dropped to 396,000. You can make the claim that this may still be too many. But it certainly, in no sense of the word, the “most” ever.
Secondly, drugs do not come through the wall-less border. The majority of drugs – including heroin, cocaine, and meth – come through the already existing ports of entries. Therefore, using the logic that you and your mindless zombie hoard do not understand, building a wall will do absolutely nothing. Trump even compared the amount of drug-related deaths to the Vietnam War – which, again, has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
Lastly, the idea that hundreds, or thousands, of American citizens are killed by illegal immigrants is completely falsified. Many more are killed by domestic Americans. This is where I refuse to understand the morals of Republicans. Mass shootings have become commonplace in our society – starting with Sandy Hook, and recently in Florida, Las Vegas, and California – yet they do nothing, since these are committed mostly by white-blooded Americans. But when a major story breaks on an illegal immigrant killing a cop, that one single story is worth spending $5 billion on a border wall. That is blatant racism, and there is no way around it.
We could also discuss Trump’s lies on how Democrats don’t want border security, despite their push on January 3 to pass a bill which included billions of dollars in more efficient ways to secure the border (involving technological advancements, not an ancient method that China used to keep the Mongols out). Senate Republicans refused to approve this, furthering the absolutely ridiculous government shutdown.
The shutdown, going into its 18th day tomorrow, is quickly approaching the record for the longest government shutdown in American history. What Trump once tweeted as an “impeachable offense” when the government shut down during Obama’s presidency while attempting to implement an entirely moral and humanitarian-based health care bill is now, somehow, perfectly fine. This is the idiotic hypocrisy displayed wholeheartedly by Trump and his administration, along with his supporters who enable the chaos.
At the end of the day, nothing about the border wall is necessary. Everything stemming from it is a lie. Trump used the term “humanitarian crisis” and that this is simply “common sense.” The real crisis is you. The real crisis is your leadership and the Republicans who are okay with this nonsense. This is anti-American, racist, fascist, and nationalistic scum. Stop lying, stop misleading. Common sense is simply this: America is based on diversity and unity.
